TEER codes, explained.

TEER is the second digit of every NOC 2021 code. It tells you how much training, education, experience and responsibility a job usually needs, and it decides whether your work counts for Express Entry.

How to read a TEER code

Take NOC 33102. The first digit, 3, is the broad occupational category (health). The second digit, 3, is the TEER. So nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates are a TEER 3 occupation. Every code in the NOC index works the same way.

Your TEER comes from the NOC code your duties match, not from your own degree. A software developer with a high school diploma is still TEER 1 if their duties match NOC 21232.

TEER codes: common questions

What is a TEER code?

TEER stands for Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities. It is the second digit of a five-digit NOC 2021 code and runs from 0 (management) to 5 (jobs learned through a short work demonstration). For example, NOC 33102 is TEER 3.

How do I find my TEER code?

Find your NOC code first, then read its second digit. NOC 21232 is TEER 1 and NOC 44101 is TEER 4. If you do not know your NOC code, compare your duties with the NOC main duties or paste them into nocfinder.

Which TEER is eligible for PR in Canada?

Express Entry counts work experience in TEER 0, 1, 2 and 3. The Federal Skilled Trades Program takes certain TEER 2 and 3 trades. TEER 4 and 5 workers can qualify through some provincial nominee streams and federal pilots.

Is TEER 3 the same as NOC B?

NOC 2016 skill level B was split into TEER 2 and TEER 3, so a former NOC B job is now TEER 2 or TEER 3. Skill type 0 became TEER 0, skill level A became TEER 1, C became TEER 4 and D became TEER 5.
