TEER 5: common questions

What does TEER 5 mean?

TEER 5 is a level in Canada's NOC 2021 Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities system. Occupations that usually need a short work demonstration and no formal education. It is the second digit of a five-digit NOC code, so every TEER 5 code looks like X5XXX.

Are TEER 5 jobs eligible for PR?

Not through Express Entry, which needs TEER 0 to 3 experience. TEER 5 workers can still reach PR through some provincial nominee streams and federal pilots, such as the caregiver and agri-food pathways, when they meet those programs' rules.

Is TEER 5 the same as NOC D?

Roughly. IRCC maps the old NOC 2016 skill level D to TEER 5. Codes changed from four to five digits, so look up the new code rather than reusing the old one.
