Retail jobs span almost the whole TEER range, which matters a lot if you plan to apply for PR. Here are the codes people search for most.
| Job | NOC code | TEER | Express Entry |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cashier | 65100 | 5 | No |
| Sales associate, retail salesperson, store associate | 64100 | 4 | No |

| Head cashier, department or store supervisor | 62010 | 2 | Yes |
| Store manager, retail manager, assistant manager (retail) | 60020 | 0 | Yes |
| Wholesale sales representative (non-technical) | 64101 | 4 | No |
Supervisor or manager: check your duties
Titles in retail are generous. A "shift manager" who mostly serves customers is not a store manager. What matters:
- 60020 retail and wholesale trade managers plan, direct and control the store: staffing, budgets, pricing, inventory and sales targets.
- 62010 retail sales supervisors supervise and coordinate sales staff, assign duties and schedules, resolve customer issues and handle cash and reports.
- 64100 retail salespersons sell products, help customers and handle transactions.
If your job really includes hiring, scheduling, budgeting and reporting to an owner or district manager, compare your duties with 60020 or 62010. If you mainly sell and serve, 64100 is honest and safer.
Retail jobs and PR
Only the supervisor (TEER 2) and manager (TEER 0) codes count for Express Entry. Cashier, sales associate and customer service jobs can still lead to PR through some provincial streams. See which NOC codes are eligible for PR.
