"Admin" jobs are spread across several NOC codes, and the differences are easy to miss. Most administrative assistants are NOC 13110, a TEER 3 code, but your duties may point to a neighbour.
The admin codes side by side
| Job | NOC code | TEER |
|---|---|---|
| Administrative assistant, executive secretary, office administrative assistant | 13110 | 3 |
| Administrative officer, office administrator, administrative services coordinator | 13100 | 3 |
| Medical secretary, medical administrative assistant, ward secretary | 13112 | 3 |
| Legal secretary, legal assistant | 13111 | 3 |
| Receptionist, appointment clerk, dental receptionist | 14101 | 4 |
| General office clerk, administrative clerk, filing clerk | 14100 | 4 |
13110 vs 13100
- 13110 administrative assistants support a manager or team: correspondence, scheduling, phones, filing, minutes, travel and supplies.
- 13100 administrative officers run office procedures and services: they set priorities, coordinate administrative services, manage records and budgets, and often oversee support staff.
If you mostly support one executive's calendar and documents, read 13110. If you run the office's processes and policies, read 13100.
13110 vs receptionist and clerk codes
Receptionists (14101) and general office support workers (14100) are TEER 4, which does not count for Express Entry. If your title is "receptionist" but you also schedule, write correspondence, maintain files and coordinate the office, compare your duties carefully with 13110. Choose the code your duties actually match: officers check the reference letter against the code.
Admin codes and PR
All the TEER 3 codes above (13110, 13100, 13111, 13112) count for the Federal Skilled Worker Program and the Canadian Experience Class. None of them is on a category-based list as of 2026-10-16.
